Mr. Mom

For Father's Day this year, I thought I would give Kris a really special gift....5 days of Riley all to himself.  Last weekend and part of last week, I joined my mom, my aunt's Phoebe and Judi and my cousin Madeline for a girl's trip to Santa Fe.  While I love nothing more than to have my little sidekick with me at all times, I knew that this little New Mexico getaway would not really be filled with toddler friendly activities, so Kris and I decide that it would be best for Riley to stay at home and have fun with her daddy.  Having never been away from her for more than 1 night, I was really nervous to leave but just as I had hoped, she did amazingly well the entire time and Kris was an awesome single parent for a few days.

She and Kris had a great time together and he especially loved getting to be home from work for a few days to take care of her.  Kris made sure that she had lots of fun activities to keep her busy, while I was gone.  They played in the fountains, went to the Children's Museum, took a picnic to the park, attended the grand opening of a new ice cream shop just up the street from our house (Riley was really, really excited about the "chawokwat" ice cream she had), spent some time with Grandma and Grandpa and went to a Fancy Nancy book reading and tea party at the Butterfly Pavilion.

mmmm...cupcakes!

I had such a great time on my trip, which was made all the better knowing that Riley was in such good hands at home.  I am so proud of my little girl and I am so thankful to have such a fun, loving and all around perfect daddy for my little Roo.

Fun in the Sun!

We have been out enjoying the sunshine and warm weather lately.  Riley absolutely loves to play in the water and was really excited when we stopped by the play fountains near our house.  It was kind of an impromptu visit, so we weren't exactly dressed for water play, but Riley could have cared less.  She was soaking wet and loved every second of it!
Since Gigi and Popdaddy's pool wasn't quite ready for swimming, we took Roo to the pool in our neighborhood last weekend.  It's been a while since she has been in a pool, but we were amazed at how comfortable she is in the water.  She loves to float on her belly and kick her feet and she will also jump in from the side.
When it's hot out, it's the best time to enjoy one of Riley's favorite treats, ice cream.  Riley and I went to the zoo on Tuesday and she got to have a vanilla ice cream cone while we checked out all of the animals.
She was feeling particularly brave that day and decided that she not only wanted to ride the train, but the carousel too. It was a first for her to get on and actually ride one of the animals. It was a tough decision, but she settled on a polar bear for her inagural ride, despite the look on her face she did actually like it.
She also was very excited about getting up close and personal with an actual polar bear
We finished our visit with a little rock climbing after checking out her favorite animal of the day, the new baby giraffe named Cricket.
