Stock Show

Our little cowgirl looks forward to one of her favorite annual events for months before it actually rolls into town...the stock show! This year, a nasty cold struck both of our girls and threatened to ruin our fun but luckly Riley was much better just in time to hit the rodeo.

Riley got to wear the new leather skirt and vest that Gigi and Pop gave her for Christmas, she makes a pretty cute little cowgirl!
Checking out the cows with Gigi
and the pigs.

The goats and sheep were a big hit too.  Riley was trying to convince Bop that this sheep liked him because it was smiling at him
She discovered a nice bale of hay that she could use to feed some sheep a single straw at a time.  I'm pretty sure that she could have spent the entire night right there.
It's also pretty necessary to test out the heavy farm equipement when you go to the stock show....
To cap off our stock show day, Ry and Kelly joined us to watch the rodeo
Piper was still feeling pretty yucky, so she slept most of the day suggled against momma in the wrap.  We did have to pull her out for a quick pic of her at her first rodeo.

Piper's 1 Month Old!

Happy 2012!

Piper is 1 month old today!
How has a month gone by already?

We had such a busy few weeks, that the time totally flew by.  Our little girl is already growing and changing.  At her 2 week check she weighed in at 6lbs 2oz and since she wasn't quite back to her birth weight the doctor thought that we should probably re-check her a week later to make sure that she is gaining enough.  At 3 weeks she was up to 6lbs 6oz and we were all happy with that so she won't need to go back until her 2 month check up.  For now, she is nursing really well and I can definitely tell she's definitely putting on a little weight and getting longer too, she's working her way from preemie clothes to newborn now :)

We are loving getting to know our new little.  She is definitely a happy baby and will sleep for hours as long as she is nestled against a warm body.  Should you make the mistake of assuming she is in deep baby slumber and think that the coast is clear to lay her down, you are most always completely wrong and she will immediately let you know.  The one exception to this is at night when she generally sleeps a 4-5 hour stretch in our bed, nestled in her snuggle cushion.  So, since we resting at night we'll just have to get over the daytime sleeping hijinx.  She gets to spend alot of time wrapped to momma in the Moby wrap or sling while I get things done.  We love the sound of her little voice when she coos and her new little smiles melt my heart.  She is at her smiliest when she first wakes us and my favorite time of day is first thing in the morning when Roo comes to snuggle and we lay there and smile at our baby and talk to her.  She pays us back with lots of coos and her enormous grins. It's perfect.
We have all been adjusting well to our new life as a family of four.  Riley is already a fantastic big sister!  She has loved her baby sister from the moment she laid eyes on her and she has totally impressed us with how gentle and sweet she is to "Pipey", her new nickname for our baby.We are also amazed at the absence of any jealousy from Roo and have seen a new patient side to her that we haven't seen before.  Riley likes to help pick out Piper's clothes, hand us diapers during changes and fetch blankets, pacifiers, nursing pillows and anything else that we need.  She likes to smile at her new baby, stroke her head and talk to her.  She can't wait till her baby sister is a little bit older and can play with toys, but for now she likes to hold them up for her to see.  I love watching the two of them together.  We are so blessed to have these two beautiful girls that bring so much joy to our lives!
